Community Outreach
Prusa research’s 3D printed holder.
We recognized the need for innovation in the personal protection equipment realm and first downloaded and printed nanohack’s design. We found it lacking and researched other available options and settled on Prusa research’s 3D printed holder and hand cut 100s of transparency sheets for the front.
When able to return to the fablab we were able to laser cut a thicker material for the front. The front file was modified to be shorter and does not include the bottom part to save time and material for 3D printing.
We printed 130 shields for the medical community and first responders on our island and neighbouring islands. Some functional prototypes were given to shop owners and vulnerable members of the population. To keep the effort low waste we cut the leftover 3d printed rafting material to create mosaic craft projects for kids.
Craft for a cause
To support the new animal shelter volunteers from Paws organised a crafting night to raise awareness about stray animals on the island. We donated our space so members of the community could gather to learn to create holiday crafts to sell at the local holiday craft bazaar. All proceeds from the sale of crafts went to support the local animal shelter.
Free courses
We offered free introductory courses to the community in 2D design, innovation, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, dance, meditation, and yoga.
Plastic Free Greece
To eradicate plastic on the island we partnered with Clean Blue Paros and Common Seas to teach sewing skills. Community members donated their sewing machines and expertise. A weekly sewing circle gathered to use discarded fabrics and create reusable cloth bags. These bags are distributed to local shop owners and members of the community to eliminate plastic bag use.
